How to plant seeds?
Planting potato seeds for seedlings is carried out not earlier than 80 days before planting in open ground. In May, seedlings can be planted. It is necessary to process the seeds in such a way as to obtain good seedlings that can be planted in the ground to obtain young potatoes in the fall.
Before growing potatoes from seeds, the soil and planting material are pre-prepared. The soil is compiled independently using equal parts of the earth, lowland peat or sand. You can also purchase a special universal primer for seedlings. The prepared substrate is steamed in a water bath for 30-40 minutes, after which it is shed with Extrasol or other biological products with fungicidal properties.
Preparation of potato seeds before planting involves soaking in boiled cool water for 1.5 days, and further processing in any growth preparation. After processing, the seeds are washed in chilled water, and then sown.
Planting seeds should be carried out in a box for seedlings along furrows to a depth of 1-1.5 cm. From above, fall asleep with river sand, previously cleaned of impurities and calcined on fire. Boxes with seedlings are covered with plastic wrap or glass. Periodically remove the shelter for ventilation. The optimum temperature for growing seedlings from seeds is 18-20 degrees during the day and 13-15 degrees at night.
Caring for potatoes after planting seeds is no different from what when planting potatoes with tubers. The gardener should be especially careful during budding and immediately after flowering. During this period, potatoes especially need abundant watering, which is carried out with the addition of a special fertilizer microbiological preparation Extrasol.
Landing Features
Before planting potatoes, you must first prepare the soil and planting material. It is important to comply with all conditions in order to ensure a good harvest in large quantities in the future.
Some gardeners plant potatoes and prepare seeds for planting according to their own technology, because they have many years of experience and the necessary knowledge.
Seat selection
Beauty is best planted on aerated soils with excellent oxygen transmission. Loamy and sandy loamy soils, peatlands, chernozems, floodplain soils are preferable. It is not recommended to grow potatoes in pits, springs and other recesses, because in such places moisture stagnates, especially in the spring. Too much moisture can cause the tubers to rot.
It is recommended to track the level of groundwater. It is better when the underground water flow is not closer than 100 cm from the soil surface. Otherwise, you will have to plant potatoes in the ridges at a height of 15-20 cm.
Potato bushes need areas with good lighting, but no gusty winds, especially northern ones. “Krasa” potatoes are planted on the southern or south-eastern slopes, where tall shrubs will grow on the north and north-west sides - they will protect the potatoes from the winds.
It is better to plant potatoes on soils where onions, lettuce, radishes or legumes, cucumbers and pumpkins previously grew. It is undesirable to plant a vegetable in the same place for more than five consecutive years. The soil accumulates various microorganisms-pests of the root crop, because of which 30-70% of the crop suffers.
Planting dates and yields
Planting in open ground occurs in the form of seedlings or tubers. Seeds for seedlings are sown in late March-early April. It is necessary to store seedlings in a warm room, observing the necessary and optimal conditions for care. The highest yield can be obtained by planting potatoes on soils fertilized with potassium and nitrogen.
You can plant Krasus in the open ground in late April or in early to mid-May. At the time of disembarkation, there should no longer be night frosts, and the average daily temperature should not be below +7 degrees. The state of soil warming is taken into account. Experts advise planting potatoes when the soil layers warm up at least half a meter in depth.
Yields are directly dependent on growing conditions, climate and proper root care. The average yield per 1 ha of land is about 400-450 c.
Rules
Potato “Krasa” is a high-yielding mid-ripening variety, the planting of which has some features. To collect large quantities of potatoes, follow these rules:
- the soil for planting is harvested in the fall, digging a shovel on a bayonet and make complex fertilizers;
- rows are located at a distance of 60-70 cm;
- this potato variety is planted at the end of the first to the beginning of the second decade of May;
- potato tubers are removed from the basement or cellar about 7-14 days before planting, transferred to a warmer room;
- potatoes are planted with seed material or annual tubers, which are grown before germination and treated for diseases.
Most gardeners recommend nitrophosphate during the planting process of potato tubers.
Landing methods
Planting potatoes depends on weather conditions. You can plant the fruit only after checking the soil temperature. If at a depth of 10 cm the temperature is +8 degrees, they begin to land. It is best to plant potatoes using the comb method, which implies a significant improvement in the penetration of oxygen into the soil throughout the planting area.
If seedlings are produced, they are sown in February or early March already with soaked seed material. To create favorable conditions for growing seeds, the soil is fertilized with a mixture of 1 part of the earth and 4 parts of peat, the introduction of complex fertilizers is mandatory.
Seeds are distributed in the ground and sprinkled with sand a little. When cultivating a variety for the first year, it is from seeds that you should not hope for a high yield. But in the case of the further use of these fruits for planting, each year the harvest will be greater.
Care
Potato tops “Krasa” is quite sensitive to cold and frost, negatively relates to soil moisture and weeds. To collect high-quality and large crops, the following growing conditions are met:
- When planting potatoes in soil, seedlings, in the form of shoots, seeds or small tubers, do not require earthing. Such plantings of vegetables carefully protect from winds and severe cold weather, using special films. In other cases, hilling potatoes is necessary.
- The first few weeks after the tubers are planted in the soil they are not watered, because during this period the formation of the root system of potatoes occurs. After the roots get a little stronger, water the plants if necessary. If there is little moisture, it is possible that the stolons will begin to die, but with strong moisture it simply rots.
- When the first stems appear, the first top dressing is carried out using potash and water-soluble fertilizers. The second top dressing is introduced after a month, but if necessary. If the stems are strong and grow well, it is not necessary to feed the plants a second time.
Preventive actions
Potato “Krasa” is characterized by increased resistance to many pests and diseases, therefore preventive measures are carried out extremely rarely and at the request of the grower who has doubts.
For this, insecticides and funcidal preparations are used. To protect the plant from aphid attacks, you can use a light solution of potassium permanganate or a garlic solution, chopping 500 g of garlic in 1 liter of water.
Harvesting and storage
Gardeners begin to harvest already 85-100 days after planting, in the beginning and middle of August. After collecting, the tubers are sorted: something is left for planting, discarded and rotten is discarded, the rest is stored.
For the long-term preservation of potatoes, experts recommend processing it with a weak solution of copper sulfate. Tubers must be stored in a cool, moderately moist and preferably dry room. It is better if the root crop is stored in wooden boxes in the cellar, where the temperature varies from +2 to +4 degrees. If the temperature is higher, the tubers will begin to germinate, later on they will completely deteriorate.
